With their made-from-scratch bagels, Deke’s Bagels is taking one of New York’s most celebrated foods and making it a Niantic culinary must.

Deke Haylon makes his bagels onsite with a unique creative flair. One glance at their menu, and you’ll know this is no ordinary bagel shop. Creative breakfast and lunch options are available, all on a to-go basis.

Try their incredible selection of sweet and savory cream cheese options! In addition to plain cream cheese, they offer a choice of interesting flavors such as berry, vegetable, bacon horseradish, chipotle, sundried tomato and more. When you stop in, be sure to ask about their other pastry selections which change daily.

Deke grew up in West Hartford. His family has been coming to Niantic since his great grandparents traveled via steamer from Hartford to the Crescent Beach Dock. Deke says the fare was $1.50 at that time. After attending the Culinary Institute of America, Deke became a private chef for the rich and famous. But eventually, he was ready for a change and happily made Niantic his home. First he tried his hand at running a deli. Unfortunately, it didn’t do well, so it was time for a backup plan.

“I googled how to make bagels and the rest is history!” said Deke.

Deke has big expansion plans. His goal is to find a suitable warehouse space with a retail component. He envisions customers coming in to watch the bagel-making process and then sitting down comfortably to enjoy breakfast or lunch. His ultimate goal is to open six more Deke’s Bagels shops. The main warehouse will distribute bagels to each of these locations. We like big dreams, Deke!

Visit Deke’s Bagels on Facebook or at his website, where you can check out his menu featuring a wide-selection of choices. User-friendly online ordering is available. They ask that you call the store for large orders.
